An exhibition of large colour photographs of the artists Antarctic experience extending his archive of work focussed on southern hemisphere landscapes since the 1980s. Daniell uses the camera to explore and define the particular in landscapes. On the Antarctic Peninsula he found deep tranquillity, strangely organic formations and stately shapes which are quite other-worldly. | | Jo Daniell has exhibited internationally since 1976. His earliest work has an element of the documentary, characteristically formalist in its approach to landscape. The works of Vestiges - Australian Landscapes V1,demonstrate a reinterpretation derived from this previous work. They are grounded in his constant re-evaluation of his approach to the Australian landscape. The more literal work has evolved and transcended to a more sophisticated perspective while maintaining a submission to nature as found. | | See exhibiton images from 1996. |
